DECRYPTION – The role of South American and Russian media partly explains this situation.

“I see the Ukrainian president being applauded standing by all parliaments (of the world). But this guy is as responsible as Putin. A guerre never has a single culprit”, said Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, in the magazine Time last May. “He wanted war, added the ex-president of Brazil. If he didn’t want it, he would have negotiated a little more. Lula is the favorite in the polls for the presidential election on October 2 against the outgoing head of state, Jair Bolsonaro. Its position may be shocking in Europe, but it is far from isolated in Latin America.

While Washington no longer seems to be interested in what has long been considered its “backyard”, Vladimir Poutine does not cease courting the Latin American countries. Its main allies are of course Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela. The three countries have privileged economic and political ties with Moscow.
