The Minister of Culture and Sports, Hili Trooper, attacks the Umm Al Fahm fans who booed the national anthem yesterday (Thursday).
“The boos chanted yesterday by Umm Al Fahm fans during the national anthem deserve all condemnation,” Troper said. “This is the Israeli league and anyone who chooses to be a part of it should respect what has been practiced in it for years and certainly the national anthem of Israel.
I appeal to the management of the group to act decisively against this contemptible behavior of some of its fans. Don’t legitimize your silence.”
As I recall, during a National League match, which started yesterday, against Hapoel Afula, some of the Umm Al Fahem fans whistled while singing “Hope”.
Hapoel Afula reported: “The Hapoel Afula football club strongly condemns the humiliation of singing the national anthem at the start of the game by Umm Al Fahm fans who did not respect the status, and even whistled throughout the entire tune.” The people of Afula received permission to voice the hope from the league director.
Shimon Hadari, the professional director of Umm Al Fachem, told the sport channel: “As a Jew in the Umm Al Fachem team, I am against booing during the anthem of course, but what the people of Afula did is a provocation for its own sake.”
