A recent study revealed that on average, women have more sex partners than men in 11 states. Whereas the percentage of men who had sex with their spouse or cohabitant was 4 percent, according to NFHS data. Compared to this, women are only 0.5 percent.

1.1. The study was conducted by the National Family Health Survey of 100,000 women and 100,000 men. The study revealed that the average number of sex partners of women was higher than that of men in many states and union territories.

People from the states of Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu have been included in this study. Among these states, Rajasthan has the highest number of sex partners at an average of 3.1%. In that calculation, men are only 1.8%. But only 4 percent of men had sex with their spouse or partner in the past 12 months. Women constitute 0.5 percent.

The National Family Health Survey-5, conducted in 2019-21, surveyed 707 districts from 28 states and eight union territories in India. This national level report also provides socio-economic data and other background statistics. It is said to help formulate new policies and implement effective programs.
