Coimbatore: Four teams each in the men’s and women’s categories advanced to the league round of the senior state basketball championship in the Coimbatore zone level competition. The state level tournament is conducted by the Tamil Nadu Basketball Association. For that, competitions will be conducted at the regional level and the selected teams will be selected for the state competition. The Coimbatore Zone level tournaments are held at two venues, the Municipal Corporation Basketball Ground and the YMCA Basketball Ground. 83 teams participated in the men’s section and 12 teams in the women’s section of the tournament, which is conducted in a ‘knockout’ and league format.
Men’s Division
The teams were divided into four groups and played in a knockout format, with one team from each group eventually qualifying for the league round. In this, United Basketball Club from A Division, Triveni from B Division, Rajalakshmi Mills from C Division and YMCA from D Division advanced to the league round. Similarly, Holy Angels, GRG, Sports Academy, Zaza and PSG, College of Arts qualified for the league round after performing well in the women’s division knockout round.
