Mudumalai: A leopard that attacked a 4-year-old girl in Arakadu area near Kotagiri got trapped in a cage set up by the forest department.

On the 10th, a leopard attacked and dragged away the 4-year-old daughter of Kishant, a laborer from the northern state, who was working in a tea plantation in Arakkadu near Kotagiri in the Nilgiris district. The girl died tragically.

As a first step to capture the leopard, the forest department had installed automatic surveillance cameras at more than 15 places in the tea plantations and monitored the movement of the leopard for the last 7 days.

In this case, when the forest department inspected the automatic surveillance cameras two days ago, the movement of a leopard was recorded in the tea garden near the residence.

Then yesterday, they put 2 cages in the tea plantations in the village area to catch the leopard. Domestic goats were tied to it. When the forest department visited yesterday morning, it was found that the leopard was trapped in a cage. Under the leadership of Utagai North Forest Division Forest Warden Ramesh, the leopard was taken to the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve by a lorry. There, the leopard was safely released in a protected dense forest area.
