The Col research grant fund is calling for research in the fields of earthquake preparedness for 2022

by time news

As part of the work plan for 2022, the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (hereinafter – the Ministry) and the Inter-ministerial Steering Committee for Earthquake Preparedness (hereinafter – the Steering Committee) are working to promote applied research activities in academia and research institutes to improve Israel’s preparedness for an earthquake disaster

In this framework, the Ministry and the Steering Committee jointly publish the following call for funding relevant studies on Israel’s preparedness for earthquakes with an emphasis on the following topics:

  • The preparedness and perceptions of the population in Israel (at the individual, family, local and national level) about a strong earthquake in Israel, the preparation for it and the ability to deal with its consequences
  • Long-term rehabilitation after a strong earthquake in Israel – analyzing the challenges and opportunities
  • Examining the effectiveness of various means of transmitting information about an earthquake warning (alarm, beep, call, other)
  • Examining the legal aspects related to preparing for earthquakes, responding to them and rebuilding after them
  • Development of methods for estimating the direct and indirect economic damages of a strong earthquake in Israel
  • Estimating the rate of casualties (physically and mentally) as a result of an earthquake
  • Using artificial intelligence to improve the ability to build a quick snapshot after an earthquake
  • Temporary housing solutions after an earthquake in a social, community perspective

For the avoidance of doubt, in all areas and topics of this call, the studies must have practical feasibility.
