Time.news – How to transform the most popular models in the world into real muses through a calendar? It is the undertaking that Emma Summerton, a creative photographer who gives free rein to her imagination, has set herself with the creation of the next Pirelli 2023 edition.
Australian, living in London for 25 years, Summerton has chosen some of the most famous models in the world to play the role: from Cara Delevingne to Emily Ratajkowski through Ashley Graham, Bella Hadid, Karlie Kloss, Adut Akech, Lila Moss, Adwoa Aboah, Lauren Wasser, He Cong, Precious Lee, Sasha Pivovarova, Guinevere van Seenus and Kaya Wilkins . . . .
Fourteen women for this titled 2023 calendar Love letters to the Museor “imaginary and archetypal characters who have inspired the photographer throughout her life”, and who, in Summerton’s case, range from her mother to singers, actresses, artists, activists, painters and many other women.
“Almost 50 years have passed since Pirelli started selling calendars and the photographs of Almanac number 49, which will be officially presented in November, were taken for three days in June in London and another in New York in July. Thirty-nine photographers have been commissioned to make this small annual portrait gallery, and only four of them are women. Summerton is the fifth after Sarah Moon (in 1972, a pioneer who decided to put an end to all that era of pin ups), Joyce Tenenson (1989), Inez van Lamsweerde (2007 together with Vinoodh Matadin) and Anne Lebowitz, first in 2000 and then in 2016.

The photographer says: “The intention is to inspire the viewer to open their minds and dream with me” while the Pirelli president, Marco Tronchetti Provera underlined: “We live in an era in which the real and the unreal merge with enormous frequencythat’s why Summerton seemed to me the perfect artist to interpret him, and at the same time make a contribution to the legacy of the Pirelli calendar ”.
For half of the models, although famous, it is a debut on the calendar: this is the case of Bella Hadid, but also Cara Delenvingne, who in 2019 was the highest paid model in the UK and who is now more focused on her career as a TV series actress and Ashley Graham, 34, of Lila Moss , daughter of Kate Moss, of the American of Norwegian origin Kaya Wilkins and of the Chinese He Cong, on the catwalk for almost a decade.
