It has been decided to publish the full details of 5,131 members who have not paid the outstanding loan of 12 crore rupees in the city cooperative banks.
There are 8 City Cooperative Banks in Salem District. It provides home loan, jewelry, small business loan etc. at low interest rate. There are no more conditions for this. Till last July 31, loans of 494 crores, 27 lakhs, 95 thousand rupees have been given to 63 thousand, 156 members in 8 banks. However, 5,131 people have defaulted and have a balance of Rs 12.26 crore.
According to Salem City Bank, through 2,740 people, 4.89 crore rupees; 1.84 crore in Chevvaipet Bank, 855; Ammapet, 254 people, 1.20 crore; Subramania Nagar in Suramangalam, 317 people, 96.82 lakhs; Athar, 484 people, 1.94 crore; Omalur, 154 people, 29.34 lakhs; Sangakiri, 229 people, 85.65 lakhs; 98 people have a balance of Rs 26.92 lakh in Tiruvalluvar City Bank in Jalakandapuram.
The Cooperative Department has directed the Zonal Collectors to take legal action to recover the outstanding arrears.
The deputy registrar said, ‘The loan balance list of the members will be published on the bank notice board. Then, a ‘notice’ will be issued to repay the loan immediately. Next, a team of officers will visit the house and collect the debt. Even after that, strict legal action will be taken against the non-paying members as per appropriate guidelines.
