The Hamburg musician has long been friends with Udo Lindenberg, whose fan he is. In the “Zeit” he writes about the relationship with him.
Udo Lindenberg is one reason why the rapper Jan Delay came to music. He was an extremely big fan, Delay writes in a text that appears on Thursday in the current Hamburg edition of the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit”.
“Because of him I started singing in the first place.” After their first collaboration in 2005, they started seeing each other more often. “Since then we’ve always been there for each other.”
Lindenberg is to be awarded honorary citizenship of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg on September 7th. His artistic work, which has been associated with Hamburg for years, and his extraordinary commitment to the city are honored. On this occasion, Delay congratulated with a personal text.
Last year he almost didn’t see his friend Udo Lindenberg at all because of the corona pandemic, Delay said in the “Zeit”. Lindenberg would have avoided contacts. “Of course I understand that, but I’ve missed him.” They both used to drive through the city together in the car all night, listening to music or talking for hours.
He particularly likes the way conversations between the two often take place, Delay said. Sometimes Lindenberg would just get up to do the windows and then chat with other people. “But then Udo sits back down and picks up where he stopped talking ten minutes ago.” That’s the thing: “Udo isn’t as screwed up as you think.
