Heavy rainfall is expected at many places in Sri Lanka, the Meteorological Center has said.

Accordingly, heavy rainfall of more than 50 mm is expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa province and Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Kalutara districts.

Elsewhere there will be thunderstorms in the evening or night. It has also mentioned that strong winds and lightning impacts are likely to occur temporarily during thunderstorms.

A warning to the public

At the same time, the general public is advised to take adequate precautions to reduce the possible damage caused by these impacts.

Also, regarding the sea areas, it is reported that there will be rain in many places in the sea areas surrounding the country and the wind will blow from the west to south-west direction and the wind speed will be between 30-40 km per hour.

The wind speed may increase to 55-60 kmph at times in coastal areas from Galle through Hambantota to Pothuvil.

Meanwhile, the wind speed may increase to 50 kmph from time to time in coastal areas from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo.

Also, from Puttalam through Hambantota to Pottuvil, the offshore seas will be very turbulent from time to time, the Meteorological Department said.
