Top Belgian neurologist Steven Laureys advocates healthy eating according to the Mediterranean diet and also a varied diet. In other words: only eating so-called superfoods makes little sense, it’s about the interaction of different foods.

“Nuts, fruits and vegetables, fish, whole grain products and olive oil have a positive influence on healthy aging, both physically and mentally,” says Laureys in Het Laatste Nieuws. “More so: studies show that healthy food, such as a Mediterranean diet , can make your brain up to seven years younger. In those studies, people are always divided into three groups: those who eat very healthy, those who live on fast food, and those who are somewhere in between. And then it turns out that there is a significant link between what the subjects eat, their cognitive functioning and the development of dementia.”
