Let’s think of a different story. But the ‘magic’ that makes the story enjoyable is in the screenplay itself. A film is made more interesting by the plot around it which does not deviate from the central point.

The director of this film, Innasi Pandian, only thought the story differently and lost track of the screenplay. Only the last twenty minutes are enjoyable. If he expects the film to be over, he continues to extend it without finishing it. In the first film, he says something to make a mark and drags him somewhere.

Arulnidhi is about to complete her sub-inspector police training. The superior tells the trainee to take one of the unfinished cases from the archives and investigate. Arulnidhi selects a case with his eyes closed. It was a robbery and murder case that happened 16 years ago in Ooty. He goes there and starts his investigation. Go investigate a case and discover the answers to a few more mysteries. This ‘diary’ is what they are.

Arulnidhi is known for paying particular attention to selecting stories for herself. He would have chosen this film in the same way. However, the director has cheated Arulnidhi by keeping only a few scenes in the screenplay till the break. It seems that Arulnidhi has not read the diary written by the director in full. There are no important pages for him. Arulnidhi enters the field only after the break. He is used to playing ‘bit’ in police roles. Same with this film.

Pavithra Marimuthu can be said to be the heroine of the film as she is paired with Arulnidhi. Pavitra works as a sub-inspector at Ooty police station. Arulnidhi falls in love immediately after seeing him.

The main plot of the film is a bus leaving Ooty for Coimbatore in the middle of the night. That’s where most of the scenes happen. Some have acted as passengers from the bus. Among them, Shahrukh is the only one who has a lot of verse, and that too with double meaning verses. Sams and Jayaprakash are also in the film. The rest are faces we don’t know much about.

Cinematographer Arvind Singh and music director Ron Ethan Yohan have worked hard to elevate the film somehow.

The beginning of the film starts well. After going to Ooty and starting the Arulnidhi investigation, if you expect the film to go from a different angle, the film goes round and round like a needle bender in Ooty. An important aspect of the film that needs to be appreciated is what happens before the climax. It’s just something we didn’t expect at all. We would not have expected such a breakthrough in Tamil cinema so far. If you had thought of the whole film like that turning point, ‘Diary’ would have given you a lot of memories.
