Doha: An attempt was made to smuggle cigarettes and banned tobacco products by concealing them in a shipment of tea that arrived in Qatar. Customs officials at Hamad Port seized the contraband and cigarettes.
700,000 cigarettes were seized. Apart from this, customs also seized 3,250 kg of banned tobacco products. They tried to smuggle cigarettes by hiding them in tea shipments to evade customs duty. Qatar has repeatedly issued warnings against smuggling contraband into the country. The authorities said that strict action will be taken against such people.
