Andrew Garfield on the preparation for the new role: “I abstained from sex for several months”
The young actor and star of “Spider-Man” reveals in a new interview that his attempt to assimilate in the most total way in his new role required him to avoid eating a lot and even having sex for six whole months. “It was an interesting and instructive spiritual experience,” he said
We know Andrew Garfield for his roles in the films “The Social Network” and “Spider-Man”. In recent years, the young actor has become one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood. Now, in honor of his new role in the movie “Under the Miracle of the Sky” Garfield reveals that he did a lot of role work at all.
“There is a misunderstanding regarding the essence of acting, many people still behave inappropriately on set. The trick is to get out of character as soon as you return to real life,” he explained. This is not the first time that Garfield does particularly intense character work, when in Scorsese’s film “Silence”, in which he played a priest from the 17th century, he spent an entire year in research work for the portrayal of the character, which included conversations with experts, reading theoretical material, and more.
In preparation for his new role, he says: “I abstained from sex for six months. It was an extraordinary experience. I did spiritual exercises every day, I lost weight because I barely ate, and I worked on myself,” he explained. As we know, Garfield is not the only one who advocates this type of preparation method, and many actors from the industry embark on similar journeys towards a new role.
