Maccabi Haifa’s hourglass is ticking, when the Israeli champion has only one more week left to finalize the squad that will face Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Nefika in the group stage of the Champions League. The main task of the Greens will be to find a replacement for Bogdan Palanich who moved to Al Ahly from the United Arab Emirates and to sign him by next Friday, and according to a report there is a candidate for the position – Andrey Borka.
As you know, the Haifa people received 1.8 million euros in exchange for Palanić, and part of the amount they may invest to land a successor for the Serb. The Romanian Borka is signed for another two years in his current team, Cluj, so Barak Becher’s team will have to pay a transfer fee. According to the “Transfermarket” website, Burka’s value is estimated at 4 million euros, but if the deal goes through, the amount should be much lower.
The 29-year-old Borka has been playing for the last three years in Cluj in his homeland, and just yesterday (Thursday) he qualified for the group stage of the Conference League. Burka’s resume includes three Romanian championships and one Supercup win, along with 12 appearances in the senior Romanian national team uniform.
