A violent brawl broke out on 5 September between the family members of ex-spouses over a dispute due to the allocation of seats, on the occasion of the child’s first communion, inside the Church of Santa Maria degli Ammalati in Acireale. The Carabinieri of Catania, at the disposal of the Etna District Prosecutor, carried out six precautionary measures against as many people, under investigation for aggravated brawl in competition. The investigation made it possible to reconstruct the events and define personal responsibilities.
The clash, at first with threats and punches inside the Church despite the presence of numerous children and also outside, had a tragic ending with the paternal grandfather arrested for attempted murder because in the excited phases of the brawl he had shot the Deputy Brigadier Sebastiano Giovanni Grasso, who intervened in support of other soldiers to quell the brawl free from duty (one of his sons was also participating in the ceremony), reporting very serious injuries in the circumstance.
