Canadian shot putter Sarah Mitton’s joy must have vanished quickly when she landed in Poland. The 26-year-old had just won the Commonwealth Games in England and had traveled on for a competition when she realized that the Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings had lost her luggage. But Mitton had taken the precaution of putting a two-euro coin-sized Bluetooth transmitter in her pocket, which she could use to track where the luggage was – or stuck. These air tags from the computer manufacturer Apple, together with the associated app, enable travelers to locate suitcases with pinpoint accuracy – anywhere in the world. Seven days later, the bag still hadn’t moved, Mitton later wrote soberly on Twitter.
