The new National President of the Congress will be known in October. Voting for the presidential election will be held on October 17 and counting of votes on October 19. KC Venu Gopal, general secretary of the Congress organization, said that the allegations made by Ghulam Nabi Azad, who left the party, are regrettable. Venugopal’s indirect reply to Azad that he did not come on a whim.
The general secretary of the organization said that the resignation of Ghulam Nabi Azad and the allegations in the letter were not discussed. The only discussion was the election of the president. Other issues will be considered later. The leadership clarified that the allegations made by Ghulam Nabi against Rahul Gandhi’s office are baseless. Rahul’s security is handled by CRPF. If there are no more than one nominations till September 30, the closing date for submission of nomination papers for the election of the President, the President will be known that day. The working committee meeting reiterated its determination to make the Maha Rally and Bharat Jo Do Rally a success.
