Spy ship visit issue: India retaliates to China and puts undue pressure on Sri Lanka

by time news

Colombo:

India objected to the arrival of the Chinese military’s spy ship ‘Yuan Wang-5’ in Sri Lanka’s Hambantota sector.

Sri Lanka asked China to postpone the ship’s arrival as India raised concerns about security threats.

But China refused to accept it and Sri Lanka allowed the ship to arrive. The Chinese ship, which was in Sri Lanka for a week, left on the 22nd.

Meanwhile, the Chinese ambassador to Sri Lanka, Jen Hong, criticized India in an article.

China will not tolerate violations of Sri Lanka’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It is customary for some to interfere in Sri Lanka’s internal affairs without evidence, citing security concerns.

He said that some countries are giving evidence and other information to torture Sri Lanka and trample on sovereignty and freedom.

The Indian Embassy in Sri Lanka has responded to this comment of the Chinese Ambassador. In this regard, the Indian Embassy has said:-

We are paying attention to the Chinese Ambassador’s comments. His violation of basic diplomatic norms may be a reflection of an individual culture or a national approach.

The Chinese ambassador’s view of India may depend on how his country behaves. But we assure him that India is not like that.

His move to match the Chinese ambassador’s geopolitical context with the arrival of a scientific research vessel is a hypocritical act.

What Sri Lanka needs now is support and help, not unnecessary pressure or unnecessary controversy. Debt-based measures are particularly challenging for small countries. Recent incidents are a warning to this.

It is noteworthy that the accusation is being made that China is trying to ensnare Sri Lanka by giving huge loans.
