Sensex and Nifty edged lower in equity trade. On the first day of the week, the Sensex fell by 861 points.
The BSE Sensex closed down 861.2 points at 57,972.62. This represents a decline of 1.46 percent in total trade.
Similarly, the national stock market index Nifty ended the trade down 246 points at 17,312.90 points. This represents a decline of 1.40 percent in total trade.
Out of the top 30 stocks on the Sensex, 24 companies saw declines. Top decliners were Tech Mahindra 4.60 percent, Infosys 3.93 percent, Wipro 3.06 percent and HCL Tech 2.98 percent.
Maruti Suzuki rose 1.30 percent and Asian Paints rose 0.61 percent.
