London: Britain’s largest aircraft carrier, HMS Prince of Wales, got stuck at sea due to an engine failure while on its way to America. The problem occurred not long after it had left Portsmouth Naval Base for a crucial test voyage.

The ship, built at a cost of 300 crore pounds (Rs 28,108 crore), was fully operational last year. A close inspection is continuing at the Isle of Wight after the standoff. Initial assessment is that the starboard propeller shaft is damaged.

The ship was going for training and other activities related to the operation of F35 Lightning fighter jets, drones etc. The hosting of the Atlantic Future Forum was also targeted.
