Sea products in particular contain a lot of salt and therefore iodine. ‘We do live by the sea, but we don’t use it enough,’ says Dijck-Brouwer. ‘Fish, but also seafood, shellfish and seaweed contain a lot of iodine.’ The main source of iodine is bread: ‘It is very common, also in countries around us, to enrich the bread salt with iodine.’
