In the last list published in 2019-20, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board was ranked 40th. Currently, it is ranked 46th in the list for the financial year 2020-21 with a ‘C minus grade’. In that year, while the electricity board earned a revenue of 49 thousand, 785 crore rupees, it suffered a loss of 13 thousand, 407 crore rupees.

The gap between that and the revenue is 2 rupees. High expenditure on power purchase etc. is the main reason for the worst position in the ranking list. In the ranking list, four power distribution companies from Gujarat are ranked first, second, fourth and fifth.
