It’s been 3 years since I released Platinum Games Hack and Slash Astral Series exclusively on Nintendo Switch. When the game debuted in August 2019, we praised it for its amazing visuals, presentation, varied gameplay, and rewarding combat.
If you haven’t already played it, we advise you to check it out. It seems that Platinum has not forgotten about this. In a Twitter message yesterday, director Takahisa Taura congratulated the game on its third year of achievement, thanked fans for their continued support, and announced a special collector’s edition:
Of course, as much as Platinum appreciates taking the time to celebrate this anniversary, it has once again led to a conversation about the future of IP – which many hope to see a variety of sequels.
A sales update yesterday, Astral Chain revealed how it has sold about 1.28 million units since its launch, including about 70,000 units since December 2020. The game has “exceeded expectations”..
Platinum Games hasn’t mentioned the future of Astral Chain on Switch, but the next game will bring it to Nintendo’s hybrid platform. The End of NieR: Automata YoRHa Edition. Takahisa was also a designer on the project.
