COP27 and COP15 summits on climate change must take action to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss – Pope Francis

Mary Teresa: The Vatican

A genuine commitment from the world is needed to care for our common home, the Earth, Pope Francis said this morning, August 31, after his Wednesday general homily at the Vatican’s St. Paul VI Arena.

Remembering the Day of Prayer for the Protection of Creation celebrated on Thursday, September 1, the Pope asked everyone to pray for the protection of this planet.

The Pope also expressed his hope that the day, which is being celebrated this year under the theme “Listen to the Voice of Creation”, will instill in everyone a true commitment to the preservation of the Earth.

The earth, which sighs from the intense pain of our consumption beyond creation, begs us to stop these acts of destruction, Pope Francis said.

Pope Francis also expressed his expectation that COP27 and COP15, the two world summits on climate change held by the United Nations, will take action to eliminate the two crises of climate change and biodiversity loss.

Time of creation

Emphasizing the importance of preserving God’s creation, from September 1st to October 4th, the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, all Christians around the world celebrate the Season of Creation.
