CHENNAI: The Electricity Board has directed the District Supervising Engineers to collect Rs 1,800 crore due from the local bodies and to remove unused power lines on a wartime basis.

Employees of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board shall pay the electricity bill within 20 days of surveying the electricity consumption in the houses; Else the power supply will be interrupted. Then, after paying the electricity bill along with the penalty amount, the electricity supply will be restored.

Factories, commercial establishments, etc., are given time to pay electricity bills. Municipalities, Municipalities, Municipalities, and Municipal Corporations are engaged in services such as street lighting and water supply to the public.

Thus, only they are given 60 days to pay the fee from the measurement of electricity usage. Even so, they do not pay properly. Already, the power board is in dire financial straits. In this context, the local bodies have not paid electricity bills as of July and have a balance of Rs 1,800 crore.

Due to this, the crisis has increased for the power board. Therefore, the electricity board has ordered the engineers to talk to the local bodies and take steps to collect the electricity bill.

The list for this has been sent to the District Superintending Engineers. Therefore, with the permission of the Panchayat Heads, the electricity board has informed to remove the unused electricity connections on a war-time basis and complete the accounts.
