The number of new infections with the coronavirus and the number of hospital admissions in connection with it increased in the past week. The number of deaths, on the other hand, remained about the same, and the number of people suffering from Covid-19 in intensive care units fell, according to the weekly report by the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH).

For the reporting week from October 18 to 24, 8,695 laboratory-confirmed Covid-19 cases were reported in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, as the BAG wrote on Thursday. This corresponds to a significant increase. The incidence of laboratory-confirmed cases in the cantons and the Principality of Liechtenstein was between 40 in Ticino and 454 cases in Appenzell Innerrhoden per 100,000 inhabitants per week.

So far, 135 hospital admissions in connection with a laboratory-confirmed infection by Sars-CoV-2, the pathogen of Covid-19, have been reported for the reporting week. In the previous week there were 114 hospital admissions at the same time.

The average number of patients with a laboratory-confirmed Sars-CoV-2 infection in an intensive care unit decreased by 17 percent in the reporting week to 107 compared to the previous week (129).

For the week from October 18 to 24, the FOPH has so far reported 27 deaths in connection with a laboratory-confirmed Sars-CoV-2 infection. In the previous week there were 28 deaths. In the reporting week, despite the expected late reports, an increase compared to the previous week is not to be expected, as the BAG writes.
