With the path of Álvaro Fernández closed, who was yesterday presented as a new player for Espanyol, Girona is moving against the clock to try to close the addition of one, or two, goalkeepers who compete with Juan Carlos. In this sense, while it is still pending whether Agustín Rossi (Boca Juniors) obtains Italian nationality and does not occupy a non-EU position, the club already has Paulo Gazzaniga (Fulham) attached. Girona already had the addition of the Argentinian goalkeeper, with an Italian passport, on track, pending a few fringes. In fact, Gazzaniga was supposed to arrive in Girona last night to undergo a medical today and be announced.
30 years old and 1’96m., Gazzaniga will be reunited in Girona with Míchel Sánchez. Both coincided at Rayo Vallecano in the 2016-17 season in the Second Division in which the Argentine was the starter (34 games). Trained in Valencia’s youth system, Gazzaniga went through Gillingham from where he would join Southampton with whom he played 21 games in the Premier League between 2012 and 2016. After the transfer to Rayo, the Argentine joined the Tottenham, where he stayed for three seasons (27 games) and was runner-up in the Champions League. In January of the 20-21 year he returned to the League to play for Elche and last summer he signed for Fulham with whom he was promoted to the Premier League (15 games). This year, the presence of Rodak and Silva had relegated him to the serile third goalkeeper.
