Manama: Minister of Labor Jameel bin Muhammad Ali Humaidan said that this time 99.87 percent of the companies have cooperated with restricting the working hours of construction activities in July and August when the heat increases in Bahrain. The restriction was from July 1 to August 31. This time only 27 institutions defaulted. Only 52 workers were working in these 27 establishments during the ban. Action will be taken against these institutions.

A total of 19,841 tests were conducted in the months of July and August. Violators will be fined between 500 and 1,000 dinars. The law was tightened as part of a commitment to protect workers’ health. During the hotter months, working on outside sites is prohibited after 4 p.m. The minister said that this time too, the vast majority of employers and workers have cooperated with this. The minister added that this regulation is helpful in maintaining the relationship between workers and employers.

The Ministry of Labor prioritizes the safety of foreign workers in Bahrain. In the last few years, the Ministry has implemented several security related measures. The Ministry will always be concerned about the workers who play a vital role in the growth of the country. Employers are obliged to provide workers with the necessary safety measures. There is no excuse for failing in these matters. The Ministry has announced that strict action will be taken against the institutions that fail in the safety of the workers.

Health experts also testify that after the introduction of the restriction, accidents due to sunburn have decreased significantly. Doctors also suggest that it is advisable to start work early in the morning and end work early. Meanwhile, there is no respite from the heat wave in the country even though the restrictions ended on Wednesday.
