Segezha Group (MOEX: SGZH, part of AFK Sistema) has started implementing plans for responsible forest management as part of a priority investment project in the field of forest development – the construction of a plywood mill in Galich, Kostroma Region. GalichLes LLC announces the start of round timber harvesting. The division will provide at least 50% of the needs of the Galich Plywood Mill with birch plywood logs.
“We have started the production of round timber to supply a new mill in Galich. The first cubic meters of plywood logs were delivered to the territory of the enterprise today “, – says Konstantin Kirillov, General Director of GalichLes LLC.
Timber supply of the project provides for the lease of about 800 thousand hectares of forest areas. The volume of the permitted annual timber supply within the framework of the priority investment project will be about 1.5 million m3. 10 out of 17 planned lease agreements for land plots with the forestry department of the Kostroma region have already been signed. Work on their conclusion will continue until the end of 2022. At present, land plots with a total area of 345.6 thousand hectares in 10 districts of the Kostroma region have been transferred to the management of GalichLes LLC.
For the efficient work of loggers, the company purchased specialized modern equipment with a total value of more than 1.5 billion rubles. The leading European machine builders purchased logging complexes and equipment for the construction of forest roads, freight vehicles for the removal and transportation of timber – more than 200 forest machines in total.
Simultaneously with logging in the Kostroma region, Segezha Group will be actively involved in reforestation. Work on compensation of forest areas will be carried out in accordance with forest development projects that have passed the state expertise. To confirm the status of a responsible forest user, GalichLes LLC will soon undergo voluntary international forest certification.
The renewal of forests is planned with the use of our own planting material with a closed root system from a tree nursery in the city of Sharya. The forestry plant will reach an annual production of about 4 million seedlings by 2023.
Work is underway to improve the comfort of living and work of the staff of GalichLes LLC. After the launch of the plywood mill, taking into account logging, about 1000 vacancies will appear in the region. Konstantin Kirillov continues to form the team: “We have modern and comfortable forestry equipment, good working and rest conditions have been created for our employees, decent wages, and enough vacancies. We invite highly qualified specialists to the company – more than 100 people have already been hired. There are vacancies for drivers of timber trucks with a manipulator, excavator drivers in the construction of forest roads, motor grader drivers, road builders and forestry experts. ” At the same time, the general director of GalichLes LLC emphasized that the need for a timber truck with a hydraulic manipulator, excavator drivers, foremen at logging sites and road builders is especially high.
