On 24 August, Ukraine’s independence day, President Volodymyr Zelensky recalled, in his address to the nation, that he was opposed to a negotiated solution to the war in which Ukraine would cede territories to the Russia. “For us, Ukraine is Ukraine as a whole. All twenty-five regions, without any concessions or compromises”he said, promising in particular to take back the Donbass basin, in the hands of separatists supported by Moscow since 2014, and Crimea, annexed by Russia the same year. “What is, for us, the end of the war?
