The departure of Mikhail Gorbachev, the last president of the Soviet Union, without full official honors or the presence of President Vladimir Putin. Burial was at Novodevichy Cemetery after a public viewing at the Hall of Columns. He was buried next to his wife, Raisa, who died in 1999.

Gorbachev was accorded military honors at the Hall of Columns, the final resting place of Lenin, Stalin and Brezhnev. However, there was no full official honor. Putin said that he will not attend the ceremony due to official commitments. Putin had already paid his last respects at the hospital.
