Amazon: More than 25 million people watched the first day of the Lord of the Rings series

by time news

Amazon said that the first episode of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”, the new series of Gerrard Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy (which is not related to the book series and is not based on it, but takes place thousands of years before the books) was watched by more than 25 million worldwide on the first day. According to Amazon, this is the biggest debut ever for any show on the Amazon Prime streaming service.

This is the most expensive TV series of all time, when it cost 465 million dollars and when Amazon bought the TV rights to it, it committed to producing 5 seasons at a cost of 1 billion dollars.

“It’s somehow fitting that Tolkien’s stories — among the most popular of all time, and what many consider the true origin of the fantasy genre — have led us to this proud moment,” Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salk said in a statement. At the show’s UK premiere, billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos hinted at how dear the series would be to fans, saying one of his sons told him “don’t throw it away” when he learned of Amazon’s acquisition of the rights to the story. Episodes of the show will continue to appear weekly on Amazon Prime.

Earlier this month, HBO said that “House of the Dragon,” the prequel to “Game of Thrones,” was the series’ biggest premiere in its history.
