Found its brake: Maccabi Tel Aviv announced today (Sunday) the signing of Derrick Lucassen on a two-year contract with the club. After a long period of searching, the 27-year-old Dutchman arrived from PSV (Eran Zahavi’s former team), passed the medical tests and will join Vladimir Ivić’s squad for the upcoming season.

Lucasan He said at the signing ceremony: “I’m happy and excited to join Maccabi Tel Aviv, a club I played against in the past and I know it’s a huge club in Israel with a huge crowd. I spoke with Joris Van Overeem and Eran Zahavi before the move, I got an excellent impression and I’m excited for a new chapter in my career.”

“We are happy that Derrick is joining us,” added the professional manager Barak Itzhaki. “He is a player with impressive data and abilities, has gained a lot of experience at the highest levels and is a significant addition to the team.”

Lucassen is a native of Amsterdam, the son of Ghanaian parents. He grew up in Alkmaar’s youth department, where he also played three seasons in the seniors between 2014 and 2017. In July, he signed a five-year contract at PSV, but did not find his place there – and was loaned to teams such as Hertha Berlin, Anderlecht, Turkish Kasimpasa and Fatih Karagomoruk – where he made 21 appearances last season, receiving three yellow cards and two red cards.

Lucassen, 1.86m, has played for all of Holland’s youth teams, including nine appearances for the under-21 team.
