Germany ready to use superprofits to help households

by time news

On September 4, the German government released a new “bazooka”, like the title Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, to support households in the face of inflation and the energy crisis. 65 billion euros at once, while Berlin had so far recorded 30 billion in aid.

Among the measures planned by the coalition “traffic light” in power (Social Democrats, Greens and Liberals), an energy check of 300 euros for many pensioners and 200 euros for students.

An ad catches the attention of the Financial Times : pour to help households, Social Democratic Chancellor Olaf Scholz intends in particular to involve companies in the energy sector which are making profits “excessive”, due to record gas prices. It would thus be a question of setting up a mechanism of “brake on the price of electricity”, offering households a basic volume of electricity at a reduced price, according to the economic daily.

A new measure for transport

The German government pleads for the implementation of such a measure at European level but Olaf Scholz has made it known that if the EU does not implement this policy within a reasonable time, Germany will act alone to reform its electricity, adds the British newspaper.

The government also intends to take a measure to replace the nine-euro monthly subscription to local and regional public transport, which expired at the end of August. A national subscription for a price between 49 and 69 euros is under discussion.
