The Carrefour hypermarket closes earlier to save electricity

The manager of the Carrefour store in Montélimar (Drôme) has set himself the goal of reducing the site’s electricity consumption by 20%. Among other measures, he recently decided to close the hypermarket earlier from Monday to Thursday, at 8 p.m. instead of 8:30 p.m., reports France Bleu Drôme Ardèche. The manager started from the observation that customers are rarer at the very end of the day.

He had already previously changed the closing time from 9 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for the sake of saving energy. Jean-Luc Ferrasse also made the decision to limit Sunday openings. The Carrefour de Montélimar will thus only be open on Sundays between April and October, with the key being 3% less electricity consumed.

When employees fill the shelves of the supermarket outside public opening hours, the lighting will also be reduced by 50%. The mayor LR of Montélimar had for his part asked the stores in the city center, then the hypermarkets, to cut off all night lighting.
