Andrey Rublev Downs Cameron Norrie To Reach Third US Open Quarter-final

by time news

Andrei Rublev enters the US Open quarter for the third time. The ninth-seeded Russian defeated Cameron Knorr 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. Rublev will face four-time champion Rafael Nadal or American Francis Tiafoe in the quarterfinals.

Norrie was aiming to become the first British player to reach the men’s singles quarter-finals since Andy Murray in 2016. But Andrei Rublev defeated Norrie 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in a rain-interrupted match. The match lasted for 2 hours and 26 minutes. The fourth round match was delayed by half an hour due to rain on Louis Armstrong Court.

All of Great Britain’s players are out of singles at this year’s US Open, with Cameron also losing. Earlier in 2017, Rublev lost to Nadal in the quarter-finals in New York. This will be Rublev’s sixth quarterfinal appearance at a major tournament, having reached the last eight in New York in 2017 and 2020.
