The 33-year-old English actress Natalie Emmanuel has become one of the most successful actresses in the industry in recent years, when her big break came following her role in the beloved series “Game of Thrones”. “I grew up in a family from a low socioeconomic status, and as a woman from a mixed family this background of mine always spoke to me and was significant for me,” she said.
“I feel that gaming is a great platform for conducting discourse on various issues, including classes, gender, violence, non-white women, power structures and more. It really moves me every time,” she added. Emmanuel grew up in a mixed household, her father was English and her mother Dominican. She started her acting studies at the age of three.
As mentioned, the big breakthrough came in 2010, when she was cast in the role of Missandei in the successful series “Game of Thrones”. Five years later she became a regular key character in the series. “Before Game of Thrones, I worked in a clothing store and got minimum wage. “I wasn’t born into a family that could support me financially, so I worked hard,” she said.
“After the success everything changed. My life changed and so did my career. I got auditions, and I started making progress. I am definitely lucky. Now, I choose to focus mainly on content that excites and interests me, and this is a great privilege for me,” she concluded.
