Kochi: Mohammad Sagar Ali, a native of Kothamangalam Iramallur, is the Malayalee star of Bhutan’s National Premier Football League. Sagar Ali, 28, plays for Bhutan First Division club FC Tak. The player who played for Bhutan Druk Star FC in 2019 has returned on a one-year contract. There are 10 teams competing in the Bhutan Premier League. At 1.82m tall, Ali, a reliable defensive lineman, captained Gujarat in the Santosh Trophy this time. Under Ali’s footsteps, Gujarat reached the Santosh Trophy final round after 37 years. In 2016, he played for Delhi FC. In 2017-18, he was with I-League Second Division team Madhya Bharat FC. In 2018, he also played for Kolkata Football League team United SC. Realizing the potential of Gujarat in football, the field was shifted to Ahmedabad three years ago. There he joined the Ahmedabad Racquet Academy (ARA) F.C.
