Qualcomm (Qualcomm), as expected, announced an intermediate generation processor and also added a new entry-level processor to it, while aligning the lines with the new marking it uses for its processors: Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 1.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is an eight-core processor in the classic configuration of two clusters, one based on 4 Cortex-A78 cores and the other based on 4 Cortex-A55 cores. According to Qualcomm, it will provide up to 40% more performance compared to Snapdragon 695, a processor that was quite popular in phones in the low mid-range market, and that the graphics chip will provide up to 35% improvement in performance.

This processor is produced in 4 nanometer lithography, and it also includes an improved artificial intelligence chip from the company’s Hexagon family that offers up to 3 times the performance compared to the previous generation, according to Qualcomm. It supports WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, image capture up to 108 megapixels, with a single 48 megapixel camera, a combination of 25 and 15 megapixel cameras, or three 13 megapixel cameras. Yes, there is support for fast charging with the Quick Charge 4+ standard, as well as support for the FHD+ diagnostic display with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The modem is a Snapdragon X62 5G with a maximum download speed of 2.9 Mbps.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 is produced in 6 nanometer lithography and consists of 2 Cortex-A78 cores and 6 Cortex-A55 cores. The company compares it to the Snapdragon 480 and claims a 15% performance improvement, and another 10% graphic improvement. The modem in its case is a Snapdragon X51 5G with a maximum download speed of 2.5 Gbps.

In terms of screen, charging and three camera configuration, it offers the same data as the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, but in one camera configuration it supports up to 32 megapixels, and in two camera configuration it is 25 + 13 megapixel sensors. It also only supports WiFi 5, and like its brother also supports Bluetooth 5.2.

Phones based on Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 will hit the market first, probably already in the current quarter. Vivo has already confirmed that the iQoo Z6 Lite will come with it. Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 devices will arrive in the first quarter of 2023, and Motorola has already confirmed that it will launch such a phone.
