More than twenty years after the launch of his game “Burger Quiz”, Alain Chabat is still popular with young people. The 2022 edition of ZEvent, an online festival broadcast on the Twitch streaming platform, will begin Thursday evening September 8 and will be marked in particular by the presence of the comedian, according to L’Obs. The interpreter of “Didier” in the eponymous film, will co-host a general knowledge game alongside the general knowledge specialist streamer “Etoiles”, who announced the event on social networks.
Since its launch in 2016, ZEvent has gradually become the high mass of streamers – a term from the vocabulary of video games designating people who comment live on their game, a video or audio stream, while interacting with other Internet users.
For more than 50 hours, fifty of the most famous streamers will follow one another during a long live on the Twitch platform, until Sunday September 11 at midnight. The goal: to raise funds for several associations for the defense of the environment.
The event will be launched Thursday, September 8 at 7:30 p.m. with the live broadcast of a concert by several artists including Soprano and Bigflo and Oli, at the Zénith de Montpellier. The rest of the ZEvent will be marked in particular by challenges and games of all kinds, including “Question for a streamer”, inspired by the famous “Questions for a champion”, co-presented by Alain Chabat, Saturday at 8 p.m.
Several controversies
During the 2020 edition, it was the journalist follower of Twitch and presenter of the famous general culture program, Samuel Étienne, who had been invited. This time, the Etoiles streamer promises “a small game of Burger Quiz”, in reference to the humorous game launched by Alain Chabat at the end of the 1990s on Canal +.
Last year, the ZEvent raised 10 million euros for the NGO “Action against Hunger”. This year, five environmental associations will benefit from the funds generated: Sea Shepherd, La Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux, WWF, Time for the Planet and Sea Cleaners.
The organizers of ZEvent had sparked controversy in July by first revealing that the Goodplanet Foundation, created by photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand, accused of greenwashing, would be the beneficiary of donations before backpedaling and canceling the partnership.
Internet users had also criticized the program for this 2022 edition, pointing in particular to the absence of a large part of the headliners of French streaming.
Last year, the organizers of the event had to face accusations of sexism, in particular because of a skid during a live in the presence of the Mexican actress Andrea Pedrero.
