Dubai Customs arrested two people who were trying to smuggle gold

DUBAI: Two travelers were caught by Dubai Customs for trying to smuggle in gold worth half a million dirhams, which had been repurposed as buckles for bags and belts. According to Dubai Customs, two passengers arriving in Dubai via Dubai International Airport were stopped from transporting 2.3 kg 24 carat gold bars with a market value of Dh4,85,700.

Passengers tried to deceive the inspectors by keeping gold bars in more than one bag. The first seizure yielded 1.072 kg of gold. Its value is 225,120 dirhams. Second, 1.241 kg of gold worth 260,610 dirhams was recovered. Ibrahim Kamali, Director of Passenger Operations Department, said that Dubai Customs has once again proved that with the help of inspectors and advanced technology, it is possible to disrupt all smuggling attempts.
