Sri Lankan players who go to international countries continue to claim refugee status and abscond.
In this case, Sri Lanka’s Sports Development Department has decided to investigate the deportation of Sri Lanka’s national karate team after arriving at Heathrow Airport in England to participate in the Commonwealth Karate Championship 2022.
The Sri Lankan karate team, who had all the necessary clearances, were questioned at Heathrow airport and their visas were canceled and they were sent back to Sri Lanka.
The Department of Sports Development said the cancellation of the visa was due to a conflict between a third party and the current Karate Federation.
The sports development department has condemned such acts and said that appropriate action will be taken against the culprits after investigating the incident.
