The Electricity Regulatory Commission has announced that the new electricity tariff hike in Tamil Nadu will come into effect from today.
The hearing meetings were held when the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board had taken steps to increase the electricity tariff. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has said that a hike in electricity tariff is inevitable as it is in debt of around Rs 1.75 lakh crore. However, the general public and small and micro enterprises objected to the increase in electricity tariff in the hearings. In this situation, the Electricity Regulatory Commission has announced that the already announced increase in electricity tariff has come into force.
