From Palakkad onwards, Malayalam cinema was circulating in the southern districts for a while. Later he climbed the hills of Idukki. Today, Malayalam cinema has started representing the culture of the innocent people of Kasaragod and Kannur districts by copying the country roads and hills.

The Mathrubhumi series was published in March 2020 under the title ‘Unarunu Kasarkodan Vellithira’. Behind the series was the conviction that the film would mark Kasaragod in the future. Later time will witness. Film shoots one after another. All of them led to critical acclaim and audience acceptance.

Kasaragod means Bekal Kota in Mani Ratnam’s song Bombay Uire. Today the people of Innat have started looking at the screen and saying ‘My country, my intersection, my house, my college, my natives’.

Until a few years ago, every filmmaker would come and go to Kasarkot. There is no flow like a summer river. But that is not the case today. Currently, three films are being shot in different parts of the district. Aravindan’s Kummatti in 1979 was one of the first films Kasarakote shot. Then years later came Sun in Pisces, A Grandmother’s Tale, and Birth. All are in the history of cinema. Until a few years ago, mainstream movies were reluctant to come, but now Kasargod has become the preferred location.

When the filming of the movie is going on continuously, the representation of the people of that country comes together in the movie. If you look at it this way, this is the beginning of the golden age of Kasaragod cinema. The films of Tovino, Dhyan Srinivasan, Aju Varghese and Arjun Asokan are progressing in the district. Films of new directors from Kasarkot namely Vijesh Panathur and Sudheesh Gopinath are being prepared in the line-up.

Thondi and there will be

These changes were initiated by the films Thondimuthal and Driksakshi released in 2017 and Unda released in 2019. Later, the film industry started here. Things picked up in 2021 with the release of Senna Hegde’s ‘Monday Affirmation’. The film bears the hallmarks of Kasaragod’s language, dress and culture. It is the novelty that all these present to the Malayali audience that brings other filmmakers to Kasarkot. The recently released ‘Nna Than Kes Kode’ was a hit in the theatres. Kasarkot people cooperated well with the filming also became a positive factor.

Cameras, lights, vehicles and stars are relatively new things to the people of the district. These natives also show a willingness to accommodate them. This is what makes filmmakers come here again and again. Those who missed the filming of Kasarkot movie till some time ago started changing their decision. With the development of transportation and other related facilities, Kasaragod is also finding its own place in the Malayalam cinema scene.
