More than 10 million euros collected: it’s a hit for the 2022 edition of Z Event, provided by 57 online “streamers” in Montpellier, from Friday until early Monday. The charity event offers a nice kitty to several environmental defense associations, namely Sea Shepherd, the League for Birds (LPO), The Sea Cleaners and WWF. The Fondation de France will be responsible for distributing the sums collected to these associations.
The sixth edition of ZEvent, created and carried by Adrien Nougaret, known under the nickname ZeratoR on the Twitch platform, exceeds its performance from last year, when 10,064,480 euros were collected for Action against Hunger.
Challenges to overcome
For more than 50 hours at the Palais des Congrès in Montpellier, participants broadcast live content and encouraged spectators to mobilize in support of these associations. Some have accepted challenges such as a rodeo on a mechanical bull, having their hair dyed live, or organizing a waste collection. The others take care of the animation by painting a canvas with the image of the event, doing a karaoke…
Alain Chabat or Bigflo came to support the event this year. “My community responded. I was there to share with them. Here, I like the improv side. I have been looking to participate for several years, ”explained the latter.
“The Z Event is Web television on the Internet. All you have to do is connect to a site to watch people take part in a kind of gaming telethon, ”explained Adrien Nougaret, co-organizer, seated in front of several screens, microphones and cameras. For its very first year, in 2016, the Z Event raised 170,000 euros. We are now a long way from that.
Macron “does his promotion on our backs”
Sunday evening, on social networks, Emmanuel Macron congratulated the participants for their defense of ecology, “a cause that I share, on which we will continue to do and above all to go much faster”. It is “no longer a subject of debate but of action, of mobilization, and therefore thank you for mobilizing with Z Event to fight to limit emissions and respond to these climate disruptions which are already there”, insisted the chef of State.
“I want us to know that since the Z Event, there are a few people who hate him (…) and it is because of people like him, among others, that we do these events there”, reacted in particular youtuber Antoine Daniel. “I’m fed up that he’s doing his promotion on our fucking back”, he insisted, denouncing “all the years are fucking Tweet of me ** *”. “Well yes you are counting on us ***, because you don’t d*** anything!
