Varanasi: The district court has given a verdict yesterday that the case filed for seeking permission to worship the Hindu deities on the outer wall of the Gnanavabi Masjid adjacent to the Kashi Viswanath Temple in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh is suitable for trial.

In Uttar Pradesh, there is a BJP government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Gnanavabi Masjid is located adjacent to the famous Kasi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi. Five Hindu women filed a lawsuit seeking permission to worship images of Hindu deities, including the goddess Sringar Gauri, on the outer wall of the mosque throughout the year.

The Varanasi Civil Court, which heard the case, ordered a field inspection with ‘video’ recording at the Gnanawabi Masjid premises. A court-appointed team inspected the mosque premises in May last year. At that time, it is said that the Shiva lingam was found in the pond in the mosque.

In this regard, the Anjuman Inthesmiya Masjid Committee, which manages the mosque, filed a case in the Supreme Court. Since it is a complex matter related to religion, the Supreme Court ordered the district court to hear the case.

District Judge AK Visvesh, who inquired into this, adjourned the verdict on August 24. The district judge gave a verdict in this case yesterday. ‘The continuous petitions of Hindu women are suitable for investigation. The trial of the case will begin on the 22nd. The petition filed by the mosque management against the investigation is dismissed’, the judgment said.

The mosque administration has informed that it will appeal against this decision in the Allahabad High Court. Following the earlier verdict, tight security was put in place in Varanasi; A restraining order was also issued. Following the verdict, Hindus celebrated by offering sweets.
