New Delhi: The Election Commission has ordered the suspension of 253 registered unauthorized political parties, including 14 parties from Tamil Nadu.

According to the Representation of the People Act, every political party should inform the Election Commission without delay if there is any change in its name, head office, administrators, address and PAN number. Some political parties register only their names and are ineffective. When the State Chief Electoral Officers and Election Officers visited and verified whether these parties were functioning, 86 political parties were not at their addresses. There was no response to the letter sent by the Election Commission. Thus the Election Commission removes these parties from its list.

As many as 253 political parties in Bihar, Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh have not followed the EC norms and have not responded to the EC officials’ letters. The Election Commission has ordered to freeze these parties. Their symbols are also banned. These parties did not contest a single election. The Election Commission has taken action against a total of 339 unauthorized parties. Since last May 25, the Election Commission has taken action against 537 parties who did not follow the rules.

Tamil Nadu Parties: Registered Tamils ​​Party, Tamil Nadu People’s Democratic Party, Tamil State Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Tamil National Party, Social Equality Force, Shakti Bharat Desam, National Welfare Party, Our Dravida Movement, People’s Renaissance Progress Kazhagam, Rajya Kongu Paravi, Lenin’s Communist Party , Kongu Nadu Munnetra Kazhagam, Kamaraj Aditanar Kazhagam and Hindustan National Party declared all 14 parties inactive.
