At least two people have died and another has been injured this Wednesday during a shooting inside the Royal Thai Army Academy, military sources reported. As noted in a note by the Royal Thai Army, the authorities were informed of an incident at 8:45 local time (GMT + 7) with a firearm at the Army Training Command Department, located in the central Dusit district of Bangkok.

The suspect, who was identified as a 59-year-old sergeant, allegedly entered the building carrying “an unknown type of firearm” and shot “military personnel who worked in the office,” according to the Army statement. The fatalities were identified as Sergeant Major Nopparat Inthasunthorn and Sergeant Major Sinsong.

Meanwhile, also a sergeant, Yongyuth Panyanuwat, was injured in the action and “was immediately transferred” to Phramongkutklao Hospital in the Thai capital for medical treatment, although his health status was not disclosed.

The authorities have not yet determined the reasons for the attack, but suspect that it could be linked to “health problems”. “The cause and motivation of the incident are under investigation. Initially, the (Army) agency provided information that it could be caused by stress and health problems,” the statement said.

The Army also reported that the aggressor fled after the attack, but has been located by police and military agents who arrested him in front of the unit, for which he is now at the disposal of Justice.

In videos broadcast live by witnesses on social networks, it is possible to see that at least two ambulances have traveled to the scene to attend to the injured, as well as an intense movement of official vehicles. Likewise, to avoid other incidents, the authorities have cut off traffic on the streets near the building, which failed to prevent dozens of citizens from gathering outside the Academy.
