What to watch tonight: “Cyberpunk 2077” found surprising redemption on Netflix

If you are a gamer, even a little, you probably have some kind of feelings when you hear the words, or rather the word and number “Cyberpunk 2077”. This role-playing game spent seven long years in development, its release date was repeatedly delayed, and the hype was impossible. Perhaps the most hype there has ever been for a computer game release. And then it hit the market in a horrible state, riddled with bugs, almost indestructible – certainly if you have a computer or console that is not completely modern. And it’s a shame, because his world was completely rich and interesting – an exaggerated cyberpunk world that took all possible inspirations (anime, William Gibson, “Blade Runner”, “Transmetropolitan”, what not), put it on 200 km/h and mixed it up. He even put the Keanu Reeves in a lead role (and he was excellent there).

But we didn’t gather here to talk about gaming, but about television. So you might be interested to hear, whether you loved or hated “Cyberpunk 2077” as a game, or whether you’re just into cyberpunk, or anime, or MDB, or just looking for something to watch tonight – that the game spawned a ten-episode Netflix series, and it Simply excellent. “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” is a story that takes place in the same world, more or less in the same times (and there are even links to the story of the game, but they are completely there as a bonus and really not required to know). The story is a kind of classic mafia story, only in a futuristic world Disturbed with lots of neon lights, gunshots and cybernetic implants: the journey of a junior street criminal to the top ranks of the gang – and all the prices he has to pay on the way to the top. And yes, there is plenty of sex and violence (note that the trailer we have attached below is a “NSFW trailer”. On the other hand, we are very Hope you’re not at work now. Late).

Lately, Netflix has been putting quite a lot of effort into game adaptations. If it used to be about slandered content that gave us flops like the “Street Fighter” movie, then last year, for example, such a collaboration with the game League of Legends gave us the excellent “Arcane”, and before that – the not bad “The Witcher” at all. By the way, “The Witcher” is based, among other things, on the three games of the same name, whose tremendous success (especially the third game in the series) is what built the success of the Polish gaming company CDPR, which used all this hype to bring us… “Cyberpunk 2077”. So call it closing the circle.
